Granite, Marble, and Stone Countertops
Stone and granite in particular is an excellent if somewhat expensive choice for countertops. Granite is an outstanding choice because maintenance is simple, and consists of a little more than wiping with a damp cloth and drying with a towel to prevent water spots. Use a mixture of mild dishwasher and warm water to clean stone countertops. Make sure that you don’t use lemon, vinegar or other acids and use a cloth or paper towel to clean the countertop.
Marble is a fine material that is timeless in its beauty. If your budget doesn’t have room for an expensive material like marble, you can choose cultured marble which is an acrylic material that resembles real marble. It is less expensive than real marble, and is easier to care for as it is not porous and does not have to be sealed. Make sure that you don’t use abrasive cleaners that will scratch the surface. Use mild cleansers directly onto the wet surface. Rinse well and buff with a soft cloth.
Soapstone is non porous which means that leaks and spills on your countertops will remain on the surface and not penetrate deep down onto the material. For best results, apply a coating of mineral oil to soapstone to help protect it further from acid and stain attacks.
